Want a healthy yet absolutely delicious party snack, that’ll have your guests talking about it all day?

Then let me share with you my special fathead pigs in a blanket! No one will even notice it’s completely low carb!

I made these fathead pigs in a blanket for a housewarming party, and they were gone in seconds.

It’s no surprise that people love pigs in a blanket, but I was shocked at the reaction I got from my guests when they found out this delicious snack was in fact keto (it’s that good)!

I truly enjoyed the hot dog flavor that marries itself into the fathead dough when it comes out of the oven. And don’t even get me started on the hunger inducing smell!

What is Fathead Dough?

Fathead dough is the best low carb dough substitute for any regular food that contains dough.

It’s typically comprised of mozzarella cheese (lots of it), eggs, cream cheese, and low carb flour (almond flour or coconut flour).

The great things about this dough is that it’s completely low carb making it really awesome for keto, and it’s also gluten-free.

You can use this dough in keto pizza, keto bagels, and even keto pretzels!

It’s a type of dough that I make very often, sometimes even 3 times a week. We LOVE it!

Tips for Making the Perfect Sleeping Hot Dogs!

1. Shape the dough when hot:

Making fathead dough is a very fast process because you can’t let it cool down.

If you let the dough cool down before shaping it around the hot dogs, it won’t want to stretch.

Since one of the main ingredients in this dough is mozzarella cheese, we want that cheese to be as hot as possible so it could be malleable.

2. Wrap them, but don’t suffocate them

You want to have a nice amount of hot dog showing on both ends when wrapping it. If you completely cover, it’ll affect the texture of the dough.

Since we use uncooked hot dogs, they have some moisture that needs to be released in the oven, which can’t escape if you completely cover them.

3. Wait until the fathead pigs in a blanket are golden brown

If you take them out of the oven too soon, you’ll risk them being uncooked in the inside.

This tip especially applies when using large hot dogs as oppose to the snack-sized ones.

4. Distribute the dough evenly per hot dog

Use a food scale if necessary. You want to be as precise as possible when distributing your dough so that it can all cook simultaneously.

How Many Carbs Are in the Fathead Pigs in a Blanket?

You may be surprised to know that these fathead pigs in a blanket are only 3.5 net carbs per serving.

The super low carb count is attributed to the minimal ingredients used in this recipe.

However, you should note the type of hot dog you use matters.

Look carefully when you are buying hot dogs as some  contain much more carbs than others, which could cause a major increase in this recipe’s carb count.
